TRiO Program
I started this club junior year, and it has helped so much. I am able to get one on one tutoring from a College of Sequoias students. Each tutor is academically focused in what we are asking them and they know how to give us step by step information. Another reason why this club has impacted my learning is due to the fact that they talk a lot about colleges. This gave me motivation to seek a college away from my hometown. Also, it gives me a lot of information regarding deadlines and how the college life works. In my opinion, more students should be in this club to get more information regarding college for later on in their years.
REAP Foundation
I have been in the REAP foundation since middle school, and it has pushed me to try and over achieve myself in my studies. One of the ways that this foundation helps is by giving back. They give money to the students who are getting level 3 and 4's in their general ed classes. Not all of the classes meet the required criteria, but most of them do, and it is such a good way to earn money for college tuition. Over the years, I have been able to receive some of the money that is being given to the students, but that doesn't mean I am going to stop. I will keep trying to receive level 4's in my general classes.
AVID
During freshman year, I was recommended to apply for the AVID program. As of the beginning of sophomore year, I was placed in the AVID class. Ever since then, I have gained knowledge in regards to college. This program has given me the opportunity in showing strengths in organization. Another factor that this program has helped me with is note taking. AVID facilitators are flooding with cornell notes every week! These notes have helped me memorize/ study for exams. I believe that this stratagy will be one I take with me to college.
Overall, AVID is a supporting enoviornemt. We learn to build on our own, and with the people surrounding us. Without AVID, I would not have the knowledge of all of the different types of colleges and opportunities the world has to offer.
